Privacy Policy
Effective October 16, 2026
- We don't collect your data. There's no Camphand account and no Camphand server.
- Your rigs, checklists, and stays stay on your devices, and in your own iCloud if you use iCloud.
- Where you've camped is stored in CloudKit's encrypted fields.
- No ads, analytics, tracking, or third-party code in the app.
Camphand is an app for iPhone and iPad made by Wanderlust Labs LLC ("we" and "us" below). This policy covers the app and this website.
What the app stores, and where
Camphand keeps what you enter and what it records for you: your rig's profile and measurements, your checklists and each time you run them, and your stays (where, when, how many nights, and your notes and ratings). It also keeps your settings.
- On your device, in the app's private storage, which iOS encrypts and other apps can't read.
- In your iCloud account, if iCloud is on. Camphand syncs through Apple's CloudKit. Only your Apple Account can read your private database; we can't see it. A stay's name, coordinates, state, dates, site, and notes are stored in CloudKit's encrypted fields, which Apple encrypts with keys from your iCloud Keychain. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- If you share a rig, the people you invite can see and change that rig, its checklists, and its stays, and see your name on the checks you make. Stopping sharing removes their access.
Location
- When you start an arrival checklist, Camphand reads your location once to save where the stay is.
- Overnight detection is off until you turn it on. It uses iOS visit monitoring, which needs location set to Always, to notice nights you spend somewhere and ask the next morning. Visits it notices stay on the device until you answer.
- Names and maps. To suggest a name for a stay ("Stay near Taos, NM"), Camphand sends that one coordinate to Apple's reverse geocoding. Maps load tiles from Apple Maps. Apple handles both under its privacy policy; we receive nothing. Which state or province a stay is in is worked out on the device, without the network.
- Level uses the motion sensor only while it's on screen.
What leaves your device because you chose to send it
- Export writes CSV, Markdown, and JSON files wherever you send them.
- Import reads a file you pick. Nothing is uploaded.
Purchases
The free trial's trip count is kept in your iCloud key-value storage, with trip locations rounded to about a kilometer. Purchases go through Apple. We don't receive your name, email, or payment details. Apple gives us sales reports with totals by country and product.
Crash reports
If you turn on Share With App Developers in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple sends us crash reports and usage statistics from Camphand. They don't contain your Camphand data. You can turn this off at any time.
What we don't do
- No analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We don't sell, rent, or share your data. We don't have it to share.
- No data is used for advertising or to train models.
